What Are The Types Of Editing?
Structural Editing reorganizes or clarifies your manuscript for structure, flow, and comprehension. This is the most intensive form of editing and would be for you if you have sections of a story but aren't quite sure how to weave them together or create a cohesive plot and narrative structure. Also referred to as developmental editing.
Copy Editing corrects the mechanics of style in your manuscript, such as errors in spelling, grammar, usage, and punctuation. It also ensures the theme, plot, and structure of your manuscript is clear, cohesive, and consistent. Also referred to as stylistic or line editing.
Proofreading is a final review and visual check of your manuscript to correct any lingering errors in spelling, grammar, formatting, or style guide consistency before publication.

What Is My Editing Process?
I recommend three rounds of editing — a structural edit (if required) or a first copy edit, a second copy edit, and a proofread. At the very least, you need to seriously consider a copy edit and a proofread.
I use track changes in Microsoft Word so you can see the changes I have made and incorporate or discount them at your discretion. I correct spelling, grammar, formatting, and style guide errors. I use comments to highlight errors in story comprehension, plot cohesion, and continuity. I also review story flow, plot development, and narrative structure.
When I edit your work, know that my suggestions are just that — suggestions. You're the boss, you decide what to incorporate. You will like some of my suggestions and others, well, perhaps not so much. Always ask yourself: Does this suggestion make my story better? If it does, incorporate it. And remember that my intention is never to alter your story but always to enhance it. My purpose as your editor is to help you write the very best story you are capable of writing.

What Is My Rate?
My editing rate is $35 per hour, which is very fair in comparison to the standard rate for a professional editor ($60 per hour).
For a structural edit, I average 1,000 words per hour.
For a copy edit, I average 3,000 words per hour.
For a proofread, I average 5,000 words per hour.
Contact me for a free consultation and a brief review of your manuscript. We can then discuss services and I can provide you with an individual quote.
